The EWDD Rapid Response Team is committed to providing free, immediate, on-site support to businesses and employees impacted by downsizing or plant closures. This vital service aims to ease the transition for affected individuals and organizations by offering accessible resources during challenging times.
On March 19th, the Rapid Response Team, in collaboration with Unite Here Local 11, hosted an employment transition orientation specifically designed to assist dislocated workers from The Original Pantry Cafe. A historic fixture in downtown Los Angeles, The Original Pantry Cafe first opened its doors in 1924 and became a beloved local institution. After an impressive 101 years of operation, the restaurant closed, leaving many dedicated employees dislocated and seeking new opportunities.
During the orientation, the Rapid Response Team ensured that the dislocated workers received assistance tailored to their needs. Support was offered in their preferred language, Spanish, fostering a sense of comfort and inclusivity among participants. Attendees also had the chance to interact directly with local experts, including a WorkSource Center representative, an EDD Workforce Services branch representative, and advisors specializing in financial guidance and Covered California resources. This personalized approach helped address their immediate concerns while providing long-term strategies to navigate the employment transition process.
The employees were particularly enthusiastic about exploring new opportunities through the California Training Benefits program, which offers training to develop new skills and expand career prospects. They also appreciated having reliable support while filing unemployment claims, giving them a sense of much-needed security during this difficult time. The Rapid Response Team continues to play a critical role in supporting dislocated workers by providing accessible, multilingual resources and fostering connections with key community partners. With initiatives like these, the team remains dedicated to empowering workers and businesses to adapt and thrive in the face of unforeseen challenges.
Rapid Response is designed to provide immediate, on-site assistance to businesses and employees affected by downsizing or plant closures for free to the recipients.
