EWDD Hire LA's Youth Employment Program for Businesses

Hire LA’s Youth is one of Los Angeles City’s most exciting programs to put young adults to work, ensuring they have “first-time” job experience that will set them on the path to becoming lifelong earners. Through the Hire LA’s Youth initiative, the City of LA partners with employers to help fill those positions. Youth are required to work at least 100 hours and receive workforce training before they arrive on the first day.

How Does This Benefit Los Angeles?

Finding a first job is hard, especially for those from neighborhoods that don’t have as many economic opportunities as others. Thousands of motivated young job seekers in the City are hoping for a chance to work. The Hire LA's Youth program helps our young adults transition to their first or second job and sets them on a career path that benefits local businesses and LA's economy. The program:
  • Prepares young adults for the modern workplace
  • Engages youth in positive activities during summer
  • Partners with the City’s business community
  • Develops long-term employment opportunities for LA’s emerging workforce

Who Recruits These Young People?

Youth are recruited through local schools, YouthSource Centers, the Community College District, and community organizations. In preparation for job placement, participants are given the opportunity to earn a Work Readiness Certificate endorsed by the LA Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of LA Workforce Development Board, and the Professionals in Human Resources Association. Participants are also offered financial literacy training during their program enrollment.

How Can I Participate?

The Hire LA's Youth program is the perfect resource if you are a local business seeking to give back. Put a young person to work this summer, and your business will benefit from having a highly motivated young adult in your workplace while giving them a crucial career-building opportunity.

As an employer, there are three ways to participate:
  1. Directly hire a youth
  2. Offer supervised work through a subsidized internship
  3. Sponsor a youth with a $2,500 pledge
