In collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (MOEO), the City of Los Angeles hosted four impactful Hire LA Day events to connect young Angelenos to meaningful employment opportunities through the Hire LA’s Youth program. These events took place at LA City College, Southwest College, LA Mission College, and Trade Tech Community College, underscoring the city’s commitment to engaging with local educational institutions to empower the next generation.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Hire LA’s Youth program, a milestone highlighting two decades of providing critical support to Los Angeles youth. The program offers more than just jobs; it delivers a holistic approach to workforce development. Participants benefit from paid work experience, which equips them with hands-on skills and career exposure to various industries, preparing them for diverse career paths in the LA region’s evolving job market. Additionally, the program provides training in essential areas like financial literacy and career readiness, as well as access to professional mentoring.
During the events, EWDD staff were actively on-site, offering personalized assistance to attendees. They provided guidance on completing applications, explained program requirements, and introduced participants to the YouthSource Center system—a network of resources designed to support young people as they navigate their career journeys.
The turnout was a testament to the program’s reach and appeal, with an estimated 1,100 youth attending these events. This strong participation demonstrates the enthusiasm of local youth to gain valuable experience and build brighter futures. EWDD staff are enthusiastic about continuing their collaboration with attendees and supporting them as they transition into summer work opportunities and beyond.
As the Hire LA’s Youth program enters its third decade, it remains a cornerstone of the city’s efforts to cultivate a skilled and empowered workforce. By connecting young Angelenos to resources and career opportunities, the program plays a pivotal role in shaping the economic future of Los Angeles while fostering a culture of inclusivity and growth.
