Shellie’s Sweets and Vegan Treats founder Michelle Jordan in her booth at a local farmer's market

Michelle Jordan, founder of Shellie’s Sweets and Vegan Treats, has always nurtured a deep passion for baking. Her kitchen served as a creative haven where she refined her skills and delighted friends and family with her creations. In 2024, Jordan took a bold step forward by transforming her beloved hobby into a full-fledged business. With aspirations to bring joy to her community through her delectable sweets and vegan treats, she sought guidance from the West Valley BusinessSource Center (BSC), a pivotal move that set her entrepreneurial journey in motion.

Under the expert guidance of the BSC team, Jordan enrolled in the Business Accelerator Program, an initiative designed to empower small business owners with essential strategies for growth and development. The program provided Jordan with valuable insights and tools to navigate the complexities of establishing and scaling a business, preparing her to turn her vision into reality.

“The BSC gave me the support I needed to grow my business,” Michelle said. “I appreciated being able to ask questions and receive quality advice and information. I would highly recommend it to any small business.”

With her newfound knowledge, Jordan successfully tackled the intricacies of securing the necessary licenses and permits to launch her sidewalk vending business. Her efforts culminated in a bustling presence at farmers' markets in Reseda and Burbank, where she introduced her treats to a wider audience. Additionally, the BSC helped Jordan apply for the LA Optimized Program, an initiative designed to enhance the digital presence and marketing of local businesses. This endeavor further bolstered her ability to connect with customers online, expand her reach, and showcase the unique charm of Shellie’s Sweets and Vegan Treats.

Today, Shellie’s Sweets and Vegan Treats thrives. Her entrepreneurial journey, guided by the support of the West Valley BusinessSource Center, reflects the remarkable blend of passion and ambition typical of the Los Angeles communities. As she continues to grow and evolve her business, Michelle Jordan inspires others to turn their dreams into reality, one sweet treat at a time.
