On February 18th, Mayor Karen Bass alongside EWDD General Manager Carolyn Hull, Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez, LA County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and other City of Los Angeles leaders came together at the West Los Angeles WorkSource Center to announce the launch of four Worker and Family Recovery Centers, one-stop shops to support wildfire-impacted workers and families. This initiative will leverage existing resources and partnerships to create a coordinated system of support where those affected can access services such as job training and placement, income support, grants for small businesses, and educational services for youth, ensuring that these populations receive the resources they need to recover, rebuild, and thrive.
Mayor Bass stated, “[M]any people often don't realize that there are many benefits available to them - cash benefits, job assistance, and business loans. We want to let everyone know to come here if they owned a business; they can get loans and technical assistance. If they were a worker that was displaced, there is cash, up to $2K ... Sometimes what discourages people from getting their benefits is the application process, but here you can actually work with staff who will take you through the process.”
These centers are now open Monday- Friday, 9am-5pm, with four locations throughout Los Angeles.
